Crafted by renowned architect Neil Rocher, this is award-winning safari design at its finest. The stunning private house is located approximately 1 km away from Chongwe River Camp on a quiet stretch of the river.
Chongwe River House’s flowing curves and bends evolve into open living spaces. Branches seem to grow from the walls and blend effortlessly into the lounge and dining areas. Bathtubs in the upper floor bedrooms allow you to completely immerse yourself in the wilderness experience.
Waterfall and rainfall showers, furniture carved from a winter thorn tree, ceilings studded with river pebbles – these are part of the unique charm of Chongwe River House.
With a dedicated team manager, highly trained local chefs and support staff to make your holiday a luxurious safari experience. The house has a private vehicle, boat, canoes, safari guides at your disposal. Activites offered are game drives, canoeing, game walks, fishing, river safaris and a 1500 square miles of wilderness, the Lower Zambezi National Park, to explore at your will. Community visits can be arranged to learn more about Zambia's culture.
Guests can relax at the veranda which extends to the views of the river. There is also a plunge pool, a large open lounge, dining area, a bar. Each of the 4 spacious en-suite bedrooms has a super king sized bed, a bath tub within the bedroom space, some chairs and table. The rooms have wonderul views of the river. Two of the rooms are on the upper floor with open air bath tubs and large verandas. The other two suites are on the ground floor and have direct access to the large deck and plunge pool. The house furnitures are hand carved from an enormous winter thorn tree. Through out the house are natural materials like bone, wood, marble and soft colored pebbles from the river.
International airport is in Lusaka (Zambia's Capital) or Livingstone Airport and then you connect with an air transfer to Royal airstrip. You will then be met by a staff at Royal Airstrip. From there you will be taken for a 15 to 20-minute drive going to Chongwe River House.
The Chongwe area is famous for huge male elephants and while chilling on the deck, you are likely to see elephant wandering around the grounds or crossing the river. Impala, kudu and many other species come to the water to drink. If you sit long enough, all Africa will come to you.
