Mandalay Estate is a Japanese-Balinese inspired multi-pavilion villa designed in the 1980's for famed rockstar David Bowie. Built on a hill top on a five acre estate with spectacular views over Britannia Bay, its tranquil setting, grand style and perfect position makes it the perfect private island retreat.
The series of pavilions are clustered around a koi poind and a crescent infinity pool. Each of the pavilion are uniquely designed with five generous bedroom suites in the main house and two other bedrooms in the adjacent cottages. Each bedroom has their own ensuite bathroom and private veranda which lead straight to the infinity pool. There is a dining pavilion and many other impressive rooms. The studio was originally David Bowie’s recording studio which he built when he first moved in to the villa, and the Writer’s Cottage was used regularly by poet and publisher Felix Dennis. Also included in the property is a game room, a study, several private decks perfect for sunbathing, dining or relaxing.
The outside area comprises of five acres of lush vegetation and tropical flowering trees, cascading pools and koi ponds. There are many seating areas with views breathtakingly beautiful, the sunsets even better, stretching out across the Caribbean waters and Grenadine islands and beyond.
Your holiday at Mandalay Estate includes a team of nine on site staff who will take care of your meals, refreshments, housekeeping and also advise on activities on the island. There is an onsite chef making sure you have the best culinary experience while on the island.
The property has its own powerboat "Love Struck' that can accommodate up to 14 passengers. The rental boat is 36 ft long with twin Suzuki 250 horsepower engines, fully equipped for sea and sport fishing or visiting neighbouring islands.
Travelling to Mustique Island is surprisingly easy. The island has its own fleet of 18 seater Twin Otter aircrafts which run daily connections from St Lucia, a short 30 minute flight providing guests with stunning views of the Grenadine archipelago. During high season additional connecting flights are also available from Barbados.

Visa Requirements
As part of St Vincent and the Grenadines, a valid passport and travel documents must be shown upon arrival to clear Customs and Immigration. Visas are not required unless travelling from Dominican Republic, China, and some countries within the Middle East and Africa. If you are unsure please check with your local Travel Advisor before you travel. There are visa restrictions for The Dominican Republic, Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, China and Nigeria. Island Fee
The 11% fee (also known as Admin fee) added to all villa reservations is a levy giving access to the island’s services and activities.
Cash
Please ensure you travel with sufficient cash for your stay as there are no cash dispensers on the island and the Mustique Company office has a limited supply.
Electricity
All properties are designed to accommodate a 220-240v system, with standard British plug sockets.
Shopping
There is a small selection of shops on the island, from the local grocery shop and fish market to the renowned Pink and Purple House boutiques that sell an extensive range of beach wear including Lotty B’s much sought after silk sarongs and kaftans.
Mobile phone coverage
Mustique has GSM coverage with multi-band handsets. Please note your service provider must have roaming capabilities and we regret that non-GSM (Verizon/NEXTEL) will not work on Mustique.
Computer Services
The island has comprehensive broadband internet access and Wi-Fi throughout all of its properties. Should you require further information or assistance please contact the IT department who will be happy to help.
Television & Telephones
A variety of channels broadcasting news, weather, sports and films are available in your villa including popular channels such as BBC World, CNN and NBC networks. Please ask your villa staff for further information.
Library
The Mustique Community Library has a comprehensive range of books, fiction, non-fiction and an extensive reference section, and offers internet and e-mail service, faxing and photocopying facilities, and DVD rental.
Medical Centre
The island doctor runs a fully-equipped modern clinic and dispensary offering 24 hour medical and emergency care, including the arrangement of emergency evacuation.
Climate and Weather
Mustique enjoys a warm climate, with an average temperature range of 75 to 85 degrees (24 to 29 C) throughout the year.

Mustique Island is in the Atlantic Standard time zone and is 4 or 5 hours behind GMT depending on time of year.
Island Currencies
Mustique trades in US dollars and Eastern Caribbean dollars (EC$) which have an approximate value of EC$ 2.60 / US $1.00.
Car & Mule Rentals
Small buggies known as “mules” can be hired to get around the island. Guests wishing to hire a mule must be over seventeen years of age and have a valid driving license. Drivers will need a current St. Vincent & the Grenadines driving permit, which is available prior to travel through Villa Services, or on arrival from Immigration at the airport at the cost of US$38.00 each.
Dress Code
Island life is relaxed and informal and there is no dress code, although some guests choose to be more formal by night. No ties or jackets are required.
Drinking Water
As part of our sustainability programme the island has installed it’s own desalination plant and water purifying system so that the island has its own fresh water supply. The tap water is excellent but if bottled water is preferred it can be purchased at the island’s grocery stores.
